Just checking in again...

Stopping for just a moment to check where I am on my GAME plan, I realize that I am in kind of a standstill. I hate to say that, but I do want to be honest. There hasn't been much of any change since last week.

Parts of my plan are still on hold because I am not actually teaching much (any) right now: I am administering a tutorial program called A+ to my students, and I didn't realize that I would be doing this for so long. The original plan was to get the students used to the program so they could comfortably go back to their classrooms and work on it with their own teachers, and I think I will be able to let it go (to some extent) very soon. However, I am now implementing a new reward/motivation system for the program, and I have to get that running first.

I have also been out of school for 3 days this week and had another project (the school's 4-page newsletter) to complete. I wish I had had moe time this week to work on my plan.

I have managed to do some things, though. I have explained the teacher wikis to a few of my peers and asked them to share their favorite sites. The podcasts are still up and running, as they were last week. Because of a crazy schedue, I haven't had lunch with the art teacher or even been able to share more than two sentences in a row with her, but I should see her tomorrow and get the ball rolling for the student art gallery.

The student wiki projects and the student skype projects are not cancelled: They are just briefly postponed. I plan to pick up those projects again as soon as I am back to my regular teaching schedule. (Trust me: I can't wait!) Cross your fingers and pray that this happens soon!

  1. The teacher wikis sound interesting. Have you had any response from other teachers on their favorite sites. It sounds like you are very busy. Sometimes projects like these just don't work into our teaching schedule, however they are giving you ideas at least for times down the road when you do have more time (and that is the right time to come back and to finish the goals that we set).

  2. Erin,

Thank you. I have a few teachers who are willing to share their favorite sites. I think more will be interesed when they see the wiki itself. Of course, there will be some who will choose to just consume the resources with out sharing any of their own, but these will not be in the majority. I think the key is to get some of the well respected teacers on board, and I already started just that. It should be a wonderful resource for all of us once we get it going!

  3. Nancy,
Don't lose heart. Sometimes, our jobs seem so overwhelming. Just keep up trying to work on your goals, even if the work isn't done when you think it should be. I too have been having trouble this week keeping up with things, and I need to take my own advice. It is heartening to know that others are dealing with similar pressures. It gives me hope. Thank you for being honest with sharing your struggles.

  4. Nancy,

It sounds to me like you ARE making progress. You have many ideas and projects being initiated and you are a very busy person! I have the same problem much of the time. I have a list that I jot down things I want to work on when I have "down time." It is actually a legal pad that looks pretty scary. I frequently add/delete and scan it to keep things in my mind and prioritize. Silly - it feels good to cross things off as completed!

You have the right idea getting some well respected teachers on board with your projects. They will be a boost with ideas and make things happen! Good luck!
